Spangler, Anna B.

Anna B. Spangler was born in Jamestown, ND, and first enrolled at the State Normal School in 1909. For several years she taught in rural schools in North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming while returning to Valley City for summer school. In June of 1917 she returned and spent the entire year to complete requirements for the Standard Diploma. In 1925, Miss Spangler joined Royal Neighbors of America, a fraternal benefit society, as an agent in Reading, Kansas. Through many years of hard work and faithful service, she advanced in the company and was named to the Board of Directors. On December 1, 1954, Anna Spangler was appointed Supreme Oracle (president) of Royal Neighbors. She held that position until her retirement in 1973. During her tenure of Supreme Oracle, the society passed the half-billion dollar millstone in insurance in force. Just prior to her retirement, Miss Spangler was listed in the sixth edition of Who's Who of American Women. Miss Spangler has been invited to the White House twice to have audiences with the Presidents. The last visit was under the administration of Lyndon B. Johnson.
