What was your major?
Health and Physical Education
What is your current employment, education, program or passion project?
I just finished my 7th year at Roosevelt Elementary in Mandan teaching K-5 Physical Education. I own two small businesses - Up Here Gear which is a North Dakota apparel brand and 701 Party Rentals where we rent out a commercial ice cream machine and slushy machine. I am also currently in the final term of my Master of Education degree - Educational Technology and Instructional Design online through WGU.
What first interested you in VCSU? How did you decide to come to VCSU?
I was recruited to play football at VCSU and decided to commit due to the great tradition of the football program and because of its strong reputation for teacher education programs.
What clubs or activities were you involved in during your time at VCSU?
Besides being on the Vikings football team, I played intramural basketball and was briefly part of the theater program.
Please list any recent accomplishments you would like to share with the VCSU community (professional or personal).
I was just named a Hidden Hometown Hero in Youth Sports through a partnership between the Bismarck Larks, Bismarck Magazine, and SCHEELS. You can read my story and more information here: https://northwoodsleague.com/bismarck-larks/community-programs/hometown-heroes/
What are your interests outside of work (Hobbies, volunteerism, interests, goals)?
I love spending time with my family - Wife Steph (Pedersen) ‘15. Sons Liam (6) and Brody (3).
I volunteer coach youth basketball, flag football, and t-ball.
What is your fondest memory of your college years?
My fondest memory of college is the lifelong friendships and bonds I built on the football team. Being part of that team taught me more than just how to play the game—it taught me discipline, accountability, and, as team captain, how to lead others. The program also played a major role in helping me grow into the man I am today. Those experiences shaped my character and laid the foundation for who I’ve become.
Do you have any advice for current VCSU students?
My advice is to enjoy the moment and not wish it away. College goes by fast, and these years are full of memories you'll look back on. Be kind to everyone—those small connections really matter, and you never know who might end up being a close friend or helping you down the road. Take it all in, build relationships, and make the most of your time at VCSU.
